The Story: Beauty after the storm. This purple rose holds a special place in my collection. It was the very first piece I completed after returning home and beginning my recovery from Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Drawing this was not just about art, it was physical therapy for my hands and healing for my mind. Each layer of pencil represents a step forward. The deep, complex purples symbolize the struggle, while the blooming form represents the return of life and creativity.

The Process: Created on archival paper, I used a Copic marker base to establish the deep violet shadows, followed by gentle, meditative layering of Polychromos pencils to build the soft, bruised-velvet texture of the petals.
